The philosophy of the International Christian School of
Cascais, is based on a God-centered view that all truth is God’s
truth, and that the Bible is inspired and the only infallible
authoritative Word of God that contains this truth, God created all
things and sustains all things. ( Col. 1:15-18) Therefore, the universe
and humanity are dynamically related to God and have the purpose of
glorifying Him ( Romans 1:18-20) Study and understanding of His world
teaches man to honor him as Creator. Man was uniquely created in
God’s image but by nature and choice has forfeited his privileged
position under God and over creation. Because humans are sinners by
nature they cannot glorify God or know God. (Romans 3:23). A person can
do this only by responding to God’s free Lordship of Jesus
Christ. Study and understanding of His Word teaches man how to be
restored in his relationship with his creator. Then a clear
understanding of the unity, significance, and purpose of truth and
knowledge is possible.
Therefore, one of the purposes of education at ICSC is to lead students
to be restored in their relationship with God, to train them to think
from a Biblical worldview, and encourage them to seek to fulfill
God’s will for their lives. Our aim socially is to provide
students with a Christian perspective on life from which a proper
understanding and acceptance of one’s role in the home, school,
at play, and work will be grounded in the Christian concept of love.
This philosophy inspires us to promote high academic standards, while
helping students to achieve skills in creativity and critical thinking.
The objective of our instructional program is to enable students to
pursue the post-secondary education of their choice.
Our responsibility for the student encompasses the spiritual, mental,
intellectual, physical, social, and emotional areas. These are
inseparable, and through them runs the thread of the spiritual.
Therefore, it must be our aim to shun the tendency to teach Bible
compartmentally or on the intellectual level alone – the scarlet
thread of spiritual principles must be inter-woven by scriptural
principles.
The participants in this dynamic process are willing students, a
well-trained mature Christian teacher, parents, and God who enables us
to know, understand, and apply truth to our experiences.
The prerogative of this education lies with the parents. As a partner
with the parents, ICSC focuses on guiding students in the discovery and
understanding of truth. It is apparent then, that the types of
activities we employ or permit in the classroom or school program will
either facilitate or militate against our Christian Philosophy.
When all these factors are integrated throughout our curriculum,
teaching methods, and relationships, the result is a biblical
foundation which has been laid for our students to think intelligently,
act responsibly, and have compassion towards others. These will become
those who can lead tomorrow’s world most effectively.
